Playground Vent

Background info:  We suspect DD has a peanut allergy.  We're taking her in for allergy testing on Thursday.

We went for a bike ride last evening and stopped at a local playground.   Unbenost to us someone had taken peanut butter and spread it all over different parts of the playground.  We noticed it on the swings, but DD had already touched it on another part of the playground.  Within 5 min. she started itching and getting some splotches on her face.  We rushed home and got her cleaned up.  We gave her some benadryl (which we aren't supposed to give 5-7 days before testing, but I didn't want her miserable) and she seemed fine and her normal self within about 30 min.  We kept her up an hour later than usual to keep an eye on her.  She seems fine this morning, her eyes are a bit puffy from rubbing them so much.

I'm so freaking pissed off that someone did that to the playground.  That could kill some poor person who has a serious allergy. I called the HOA who is in charge of that neighborhood and reported it to them as they may have someone who can go and clean it up.  The lady I spoke to was apologetic and thanked me for reporting it.

Re: Playground Vent

  • That's horrible.  To a child with a severe peanut allergy, that's no different than spreading poison around.  Is the playground on private property for the HOA, or if it's county-owned, I'd also call them.  I'd be really upset, too.

  • I can't believe someone would deliberately do that.  How cruel and vindictive.  Peanut allergies are so common and so widely publicized.  I am hoping that it was just a kid who carried his sandwich with him as he was playing and not something more deliberate.  The latter is just mind boggling.  I am glad your daughter is well.
  • It looked deliberate.  The lid to the Jiff jar and a plastic knife were on the ground by the swings.  The peanut butter was spread all up and down the chains on not just one, but 2 swings.

  • That is really bad!  There are some children that have such horrible peanut allergies that it can lead to death very quickly if not acted upon right away.  I can't imagine someone doing something like that.

  • This is unbelievable. I think the HOA should send out an urgent message to the neighborhood about this - it's a very serious offense.  Have they followed up?  I think a police report should be filed and if that municipality has a Facebook page they should send a message.
