pre-TTC prep

Hey guys - I might be joining you all in a couple of months. If my DH gets an offer to relocate in the spring, we'll know in 2 weeks, it will put us in a better position to TTC. If that happens, this will be my last month on the pill, and probably after I've had AF naturally once after that we would begin seriously TTC. So still up in the air, but I want to treat my body as if I'm preparing starting now, couldn't hurt. Here's what I am doing, let me know if I could be doing better:

I'm currently taking a regular multivitamin that I'll switch to a pre-natal once I'm off the pill. Anything I should know about these?

I'm trying to cut down from 2 cups a day of tea at work to 1, and mostly eliminating soda (not a coffee drinker).

I'm still eating sweets b/c I love them, but I'm also making sure that I get more fruits and veggies in my diet. I already get a decent amount of calcium in my diet and don't think I'm lacking there.

I am also trying to be good about exercise - I don't need to lose any weight, and in fact I probably shouldn't. My BMI is at the low end of normal, so I think I'm good there.

Anything I am forgetting?? I hope that I get to join you ladies soon for real :-)

Re: pre-TTC prep

  • you're back, when you work out, do exercises to make it stronger.  You will carry alot of weight.  My nurse told me that people complaint about the epidural but that it not, its their back that tired from the weight.

  • Sounds like you're definitely on the right track!

They say you can continue most excercise once you're KU, just don't start anything new. So, if you were planning on trying out Pilates (for example) for the first time then I'd start now.

Great suggestion - I wouldn't have thought about that on my own but it definitely makes sense.

  • Sounds like you're headed in the right direction.  I'm not sure if you're interested in doing any reading, but Taking Control Of Your Fertility was pretty helpful in TTC prep for me.

  • Make sure you're up to date on your vaccines such as MMR and TDaP (the tetanus shot with the pertussis vaccine in it).  You can't get either vaccine while you're pregnant but both are highly recommended to both keep you from getting such diseases (pertussis is probably more common than tetanus these days) and measles.

Calcium wise, I was ok until the 3rd trimester and then I had to start upping my calcium because of how I was taking the iron I was told to take for being slightly anemic.  (I was getting muscle cramps but they were quickly reversed when I altered when I was taking the pills.)  So it might not be a bad idea to add a calcium supplement (take it at a different time than your multi/prenatal vitamin to help in absorption b/c your body can only absorb so much at once).  GL!

everyone talks about this, so maybe I'll look into it. I will be careful not to read it anywhere near my coworkers or family though :)
