How can I get her to go back to sleep?

So now that Angelica sits and stand in the crib, so wakes up in the middle of the night and sits or stands.  I know she's tired but she won't lay down and as long as she's up, so won't fall asleep.

John keeps telling me to leave in the crib if she's not crying but as long as she's up, I'm up.

Help!!!

Re: How can I get her to go back to sleep?

  • Have you tried going in her room without turning any lights on, no talking to her and just laying her back down in bed?  We went through this (and sometimes still do) and sometimes that seems to help.  Just make sure you walk in, gently lay her down and then walk right out.

  • I went through this for awhile with Rowen.  My only advise is to ignore her.  Rowen would eventually go back to sleep if I left him alone, but if I paid him any attention he would want out of his crib.  I think its a phase that most kids go through and just need to learn to put themselves back to sleep. Good luck!

  • Yes, I do that all the time, I put her down without talking to her and she sits right up.  I hope its a face, I'm tired!
  • She probably sees it as a game by now - sit up and mommy will come.  We never went in there.  As long as she wasn't crying we just left her and she'd eventually go back to sleep.

What is it that's keeping you from falling back to sleep when she's awake?  Are you afraid she'll climb out of her crib?  (If so, maybe a crib tent will help ease your fears.)  The reason I ask is that dd is now 3 and still wakes during the night. I'll hear her in her room singing to her stuffed animals for a while and then she goes back to bed on her own.   This could go on for a while (possibly years)  and if it's happening a few times a night, every night, that's a lot of sleep you are going to be missing.

Dd's ped told me that it takes 14 days for a baby to break a habit.  So maybe try for 2 weeks not to go in there and maybe that will make her realize that she needs to go back to sleep on her own.  Just a suggestion, of course.  Good luck!
