TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Talk to me about Gonal F

As that is apparently what I am stabbing myself with later today (or tomorrow, as Cigna apparently is incapable of keeping track of RXs and the like. I despise them.)

Re: Talk to me about Gonal F

  • No clue, but ::big hugs:: & hopefully it'll be your magic drug :)

  • Don't know much except that's what my sis used for my nephew and the twins.  :)  They had very good success with it.
  • I used Follistim, not Gonal F... but I think they are intended to do the same thing.  I paired it with Menopur and as you probably remember from my days of whining, I had the worst headaches in the world.  Have you ever used an FSH before?

Nope, this is my first tango with fertility drugs of any kind.

  • you can do it. You already know the injection tricks (cold can of soda or beer to ice before, pinch skin and slide, not poke in. really helps with bruising. also, switch sides each day - I do stomach - my doc allows stomach, arms or legs - but I have plenty o' jelly in the belly so it made most sense to me, and least likely to be seen by general public.)

My doses ranged from 75-150 on average, and I had one at 225. My only sideeffects were bloat (yeah! what fun!), mild cramping once you O (b/c of the bloat), and I was tired. I didn't get the headaches or the mood swings (although you may want to check with my DH on that one). I triggered with Ovidrel which gave me more bloat but no other side effect.

The pens are very easy to use - you can't screw up dosage very easily b/c it measures for you. let me know if you need anything!

Ahhh, ok.  That's what I was thinking.  Well... for me it was fairly easy.  The worst part was the swollen ovaries (hurt to move) and the freakin' headaches.  But luckily I had you ladies reminding me it was all worth it.  The shots themselves are easy... in the tummy.  Didn't hurt at all!!  The PIO shots are a PIA....literally. You can do it!  We are here for you!

  • NO idea.  But good luck girl!

    You can do this.

  • Thanks ladies.

I am triggering with Ovidrel as well, so thanks Mindy for that info as well!

  • This is what I've taken for 2 of my IUIs (and last month when the IUI was cancelled).  It worked for our 1st IUI but that obviously didn't end well.  Is it the pen?  It's actually not bad at all.  I stab myself in the stomach and it it's just a little prick.  How many units are you taking?  GL!!!!!!!!!!

  • GL Allison!  I took Follistim and I didn't have too many side effects.  After a few days it might feel like your ovaries are about to explode, but I try to remind myself that means it's probably working and lots of little follies are growing.  Drink lots of water with the ovidrel - my worst s/e with that was constipation.

  • Sorry not sure about Gonal, I took follistim. But wishing you lots of good luck.
