Okay, so I went on a "buy out what I *really* need left on my registry today with my good friend from vet school. We were TOTALLY blessed in that she gifted our baby girl $100 of whatever we needed too! Two of the items on my list that I purchased today, I'm unsure about, but know that I can return them.
I originally registered for the Boppy pillow. But when I took it out of the package, and put it above my bump (trying to see how it would fit after baby arrives) it just doesn't fit quite right around me. And of course, it's super squishy. Maybe comfy for baby, but not comfy for me if I can't have it around my waist.
So, I got this: Brest Friend Deluxe (pink) Have any of you used this/registered for/have an opinion?
The other item is something that I got for the crib, a "universal crib wedge." When I registered, it seemed like a smart buy, but I really have no idea. Here's a link to it: Safe Lift Universal Crib Wedge. It would seem that it goes above the mattress protector, but below the sheet. I've decided not to layer (but to use a sheet saver on top of the fitted sheet). Any thoughts?
Re: Does anyone have either of these items???
I had both the Boppy and the My Brest Friend and decided the Boppy was easier to use (the velcro on the My Brest Friend was distracting and loud in case the baby fell asleep).
The Universal Crib Wedge actually goes UNDER the mattress and is generally used for reflux babies.
My Blog
I raise my kids mattress, but I just roll up a towel and put it under one end of the crib - so while I agree with the idea of doing it, I think you could do it for free if you wanted to spend that money elsewhere. Otherwise, that wedge is great.
As far as the Boppy vs. Brest Friend... I have the Boppy and I never use it for breastfeeding. That just isn't comfortable to me. I prefer to prop my arm up with a pillow rolled up and just hold the baby. That's my preference, but I know friends and some family that cannot nurse without their Boppy. What I like about the Boppy is that its also just a pillow for baby. In the newborn stage (and pre-rolling over), its a great prop for letting baby lay down and look around the room when the bouncy chair and swing are a little too upright. I also let my kids practice sitting with it when they're around 4 - 6 months old. I put it around their legs and give them some toys. It keeps them sitting up, and it provides a soft area if they plop over. So my vote is for the Boppy, just because its more multi-purpose. But I know some people really love the Brest Friend, too - if that is your ONLY use for it.
Just some thoughts!
We love the Boppy. It seemed weird when I tried it on when I was pregnant, but post partum it works FABULOUS. I'm not a small girl either and there isn't a "fit" issue at all. We use it for nursing, for tummy time, for propping Emberlyn up, my mom uses it when she is holding the baby because she has a bad back, and I could go on and on. Everyone who has come over and held Emberlyn has used it and just loved it. I'm just sad I didn't have one when I had Susannah!
As you can tell, I love, love, love our Boppy.
