Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Rec your bottles/nipples for rice cereal please!!

My baby has AR and the gastro wants us to really get started on giving cereal in his formula..we use slow flow Nuk and are trying to make the holes bigger, but it's not working very well. We tried the cereal flow Playtex Drop Ins and they're getting stuck too. Any suggestions? p.s. After just one day of increased meds and rice cereal, he already is sleeping better (4 hrs instead of up every hr) and so far no spit up!!! TIA!

  • We use Born Free brand bottles which are made to reduce colic/reflux/spit up like the Dr. Browns.  They are easier to clean than Dr. Browns, though.  Also, we use the level 2 nipples with the rice cereal and it works really well.  They might clog a couple of times during a feeding but all we have to do is give the bottle a quick shake and we can keep going.

    This..they have worked really well!

  • We use Dr. Brown's with their Y-cut nipples. Works perfect!
  • You could also try the medium flow nipples for the drop ins. We couldn't use the y-cut in those either but the medium flow worked.
  • We use the Dr. Browns bottles for spit up. They work well. A Y-cut nipple is offered for rice cereal.

  • I use Avent ith the variable flow nipples.  It is made for "thicker liquids"   we like it because all we have to do is turn the nipple to let more or less come through

  • We use the Nuk bottles with the medium flow nippes and they work perfect for the added rice cereal. It allows her to drink as slow as she likes but also lets the thick formula through.

  • BornFree bottles with the Y-cut nipples.

  • thanks everyone, I'll be looking into them..so far I'm working with using a pin or toothpick to enlarge the ones we have, but I think we're going to try fast flow nuk and then avent if that doesn't work (only bec we have a ton of avent in the house which we gave up on originally bec of leaks).  We are giving a tsp of cereal per ounce so it's really think & he's getting frustrated!
