How long for a realtor to call you back?

We called a realtor a few days ago to request a showing and left a message. We also followed up with an email (linked from the house website).

Its been 3 days and we haven't heard back. There was no out of office notification on the voicemail or email. At what point do we call the office and request the house to be shown by someone else? I don't want to get her in trouble, but isn't 3 days a bit long to not even get a call back? All we want to do is set up a time to see the house. And the house is empty, so its not like she has to coordinate with the sellers.

  • 24 hours. As in 1 day, not an 8 hour biz day. If she hasn't called back in 1 day, new Realtor.

  • She should have called you back by now.  Have you already sign an agreement for her to be your agent?  If not you can call the office and request another agent.

If you have signed a rep agreement depending on your state you may be able to get out of it with a quick letter/email ending the "relationship".

  • Is it the listing agent for the house?  I wouldn't see it through her or her agency anyway, she/they represents the buyers.  You wouldn't want to do a dual agent thing.  I did that on my first house and it was a big big mistake.

Maybe get an agent for yourself and see it.

We are house hunting now and my agent has always either answered the phone or called back with in an hour.  Emails answered immediately during business hours.  I think even 24 hours on a business day is too long.

  • She's not our agent, and we haven't signed anything with anyone.

We just saw the house online and clicked on the link to request a showing and this was the agent that popped up.

    this.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • To answer your origininal question. Not longer than a day. You cant wait 3 days to go see a property. What if someone else sees in that time and puts in a offer.

Side note: You should get your own realtor. Its fine for a listing agent to show a house but you need your own buyers agent so someone is looking out for your interests. If you have one agent representing both the buyers and the sellers not only are they making 6% (usually) on the deal but they're on the sellers side too.
