How many cupcakes?

I think we are going to do cupcakes instead of a cake for DS's 1st bday party (outside, pavillion at a playground).  DS will have his own smash cake.

Is there a rule of thumb for how many to get?  Obviously I would rather have more than not enough but also don't want to be swimming in them later (I can't eat them, DS2 is dairy free and neither DS1 or DH are big on sweets).

Thanks!

Re: How many cupcakes?

  • I'm doing cupcakes for my mom's 50th birthday party and I ordered 2 per person that was invited.  I know we will have a lot leftover b/c several people don't eat sweets or can't that are coming.

  • I'm doing cupcakes for N's party this weekend and am also figuring on 2/person.  I know this will be way too many...but I *hate* feeling like I might not have enough so I always over do it!

  • I always thought 1 per person, 2 a person seems like way too much to me.  As long as they are normal size and not the tiny ones, everyone will expect to get one but some people will pass, no one will expect more than one cupcake IMHO.
