Houston Babies

Age 4.

When we're in the car or actually when we're just about anywhere, Sarah asks me questions constantly.  Silly questions, serious questions, totally random questions.....it goes on and on and on without a break.  All day long every day.  I'm thankful that she's a verbal and curious child, but sometimes I just zone out and she gets frustrated because she'll ask the same question 3x and I don't answer.  I just need to take a small break from answering her because there are days the questions drive me slowly insane.

Does your 4yo do this too?  She also talks to herself when she's playing, which is super cute.

Re: Age 4.

  • my 3 year old does this.  And yes, it is exhausting.  When I take the small break or am looking for something I get, "mommy, answer me," then once I have answered, "why?", or "mommy, talk to me", when Dh and I are talking about something.  It's not like he is ignored at all, but the chatter never stops.....until we get someplace where there are other people, then you can't get him to open his mouth....grrrr.

By the way your girls are just beautiful, especially all dressed up.

  • I don't have a four year old, but I was that kid.  I distinctly remember my mom telling me "Mama's ears/brain are tired, no more questions/talking right now."   It was always said kindly and not when I was asking/talking about something important. I think she put time limits on it too, like "come back when the little hand is on the 3."

I just babbled. I also talked to myself (still do but only silently in my head so people don't call the cops on me at the grocery store!)  I even talked in my sleep.   At bedtime my sister used to complain (we shared a room) that I'd talk too much.  I was telling myself stories in bed (yes out loud).  My mom asked me to whisper to myself.  Then my sister complained because she couldn't hear what I was saying! Stick out tongue  The good news is I outgrew it and wasn't scarred for life by my mom asking me to please be quiet on occasion.  But I still make up stories in my head when I can't sleep.  Big Smile

  • YES!  O is only 3 but he does this all.the.time.  The car is the worst.  Sometimes I just respond with whatever I think will satisfy him, even if it's not exactly true.  I've also learned to turn the question around on him.  For example if he asks, "mom, why is the sky blue?" and doesn't like my answer he'll ask again and again.  After about the 3rd time I'll say, "I don't know, Orion.  Why is the sky blue?"  That ends it right there.

He has always been very verbal so I don't expect this to end any time soon.  At least he can fully communicate what he wants.

  • YES.  Sam does it, and it is exhausting.  What kills me is when he's asking philosophical questions like, "Mom, why is that a stop sign?"  Or the highly scientific questions, like, "Dad, why is the sun so hot?"

When we were in Houston, he was doing it to my sister, and she started losing patience after about 5 or 6 questions in a row.  I had to stifle my giggles.

that was me too. except I would also have my dad ask me questions. (we would go get bagels every sunday morning and I'd have him quiz me). Whenever he wanted some peace he would say "name 3 fruits that start with l" or 3 animals that start with Q.

and S, my mom would say the "ears are tired" thing too.

Addie talks nonstop now, especially when falling asleep or playing. we went to see despicable me and when the youngest girl is falling asleep she's yammering on about unicorns. that's totally Addie-I had her in bed with me the other night and I got a running commentary on anything and everything her little brain was thinking of.

  • Alex talks nonstop from the time he wakes up in the morning until he falls asleep at night.  Nonstop.  Question after question after observation after observation.
It is exhausting!  I love it, but it is exhausting!!!
