Tricare will send you a letter in the mail about 7 to 10 business days after your doctor submitted the referral. When you receive the letter, it will have instructions telling you what to do after making an appointment with the specialist.

Whenever I have had a referral (for off base) I have gotten a letter in the mail. Once I get that letter, I have the number to call and the name of the doctor/clinic to make the appointment with.
1. You can call Tricare about 48 hours after it is submitted to get the name and number of the place you are being referred to.
2. You can wait 7-10 days for the referral letter to arrive to your home.
3. For each of my referrals, I have ALWAYS received a call from the doctor's office I was being referred to. They receive a fax of the authorization immediately, and they have always called me to set up the appointment, which meant that the first two options were unnecessary.
The clinic here actually called and set up the appointment at the MFM for me, maybe because I'm considered "high risk" because it's twins? They recommended I check the status of the referral online because it was the quickest way to see it.
Re: tricare referral question
I don't know the phone number for your tricare region, but you just call and ther is a menu selection for "Check on the Status of a Referral".
