Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When are eggs ok?

Normally I post on 6-9 but I thought you guys would be able to help out too. Abby has suddenly decided she hates purees so we are looking for good finger foods. I have heard eggs a lot. When can you introduce those? Are yolks and whites ok or can they only eat a certain part?

Yolks are ok, but you're supposed to wait on egg whites until a year because they are a common allergy food, from what I've heard. DD eats scrambled egg yolks and we have no problems- she loves them.

  • We gave egg yolk at 6.5 months and the whole egg at 7 months.  We have had no problems and DD loves them!
  • We have no history of allergy so we gave DD whole eggs around 7.5 months.

The pedi told us that DD could have the whole egg at 9 mos as long as there were no egg allergies in our family.

  • Our pedi said as long as there's no family history of egg allergies then we could try them. DD first had them at 8.5 months.

  • We have no family history of food allergies either, but J is allergic to milk, eggs and nuts. We have to wait to try eggs till his skin test no longer shows an allergy :( FWIW, we only tested for egg whites and it was only at a .59, so hes not super allergic to them like he is to milk, but we are still avoiding, obviously.

  • DD has been having whole scrambled eggs since 8 months or so. She loves them and they are a great source of protein.
