I am just starting to think about my options here. I always just assumed another c/s was the safest route. Now that I am pregnant again I want to learn more about all my options.
If you want/wanted a VBAC- why??
thanks!

I'd love a VBAC - I can't imagine recovering from a cesarean birth with a toddler at home. My recovery was rough though. Then again the fact that I went through 26 hours of unmedicated labor before the cesarean probably has a lot to do with it. But honestly, I still believe, despite my cesarean, that VBAC is safer and is medically better for me and the baby. I asked the surgeon who did mine if I could have a VBAC and he said yes. I confirmed with my OB at my 6 week pp and asked again at my annual. Each time the response has been that I'm a good candidate provided the next LO is as big or smaller than DD. That's a big caveat though and I realize that but it's my hope that if we're lucky enough to have another he or she will be 7, 15 or smaller...hopefully smaller
ETA: My official diagnosis for the cesarean was "failure to descend" -- DD stayed up in my rib cage the whole time.

my ob, said NO, for 2 reasons, one being that they don't like the general risk of rupture, and in my case my age plays a part in it too, I am now 39(ugh) and they said they won't do it!
To be honest, I did think about it, but I had a very easy recovery with my DS and I like the idea of being able to pick a date, October is a very very filled month in my world and I am glad that I can try to make sure LO will have her own bday!
To me the most important part is getting her here safely, not where she comes out of me from!

I agree about doing whatever is the safest option! I just assumed it was a c/s then I started reading stuff that was questioning that. I will definately talk to my OB about this!!!

first off, I think I missed your announcement - holy cow! congrats!
As for your question - I would like to attempt a VBAC not only because I believe it's probably safer, but because I've always had a real drive to experience childbirth. I had a great c/s with an easy recovery and I would be ok if I had to go that route again but I would be thrilled to go through the experience of labor and vaginal birth.

I had a great c/s too.... I am just worried about doing it again with a baby and a toddler. Have you read that VBAC is safer?

There are risks to repeat cesarean births that are higher than reported and risks to VBAC that are lower. There was a recent conference on VBAC that generated some really great IMO papers. And the current ACOG guidelines (which are actually quite old -1995 I think) are actually very VBAC encouraging! But safer is probably impossible to quantitatively measure. Unfortunately. Anyway, I realized I responded and also completely failed to congratulate you. Congrats! And good luck, whatever you decide . There is a bump VBAC group. Page Lanie on 12-24 ( or maybe the older toddler group) and she'll send the invite.

I want a VBAC. but cannot have one, my local hospitals do not do them.
Why? My csection was hell. My recovery was fine, but the surgery itself was hellish.
