Infertility

Possibly a stupid question

I didn't want to hijack the post a couple down but why is it that the doctors do not advise you to have sex after a ET until a neg. beta or hearing the heartbeat? Like I said, this may be a stupid question Embarrassed . Do they advise you not to have sex after an IUI as well or is it just something t do with IVF ?

Re: Possibly a stupid question

  • I was advised nothing after my ER. I was thinking it may be to prevent infection since I got the same advice after my d+c. Don't know for sure though.

  • I didn't think about the infection part - that could be right.

I always thought they wanted you on pelvic rest - I think that may be what it's for?

Thank you IVF for our little miracles!!
  • I would think it would have to do with both risk of infection and also the need to take it easy since the ovaries are so enlarged from stims. Don't want to risk torsion.
