Baseline appt...long with questions

I went in on CD 5 yesterday for my baseline appointment. I still had a 13mm follie, or pocket, not sure what to call it. The nurse said it was fine, probably the side I oed from. I didn't have that the cycle prior.

Bloodwork came back at baseline. I will be doing femara again. She talked to me about injectables too. I responded to the femara but didn't get pregnant so they are beginning to look into that. I will still take the femara but be ready with the injects just in case I don't respond enough. Anyone else do femara and injects in the same cycle?

Also, my appointment was supposed to be last Friday but they called and needed to push it to yesterday because it is IVF time for them and they were crazy busy. Will starting femara on CD5 push back O? Last cycle I started it on CD2. I worry that I won't have enough time to respond to it by next Wed when I go for my follie scan? Maybe that's why we are doing injects?

Final question, I was given the option on follistim or bravelle based on which my ins covered. She said the follistim is easier because it is a prefilled pen. Which do you prefer? Does one hurt more than the other?

Thanks!! If you made it this far I applaud you!!

Re: Baseline appt...long with questions

  • Hey sweetie. Take a look at my siggy. This cycle we did B2B IUI's + Femara+ Follistim. I responded MUCH quicker and much better with the injects. I didn't have MORE follicles, just better follicles. And I O'd naturally exactly when I was ready.

I actually have both bravelle and follistim and my RE gave me the choice. She and I both agreed that Follistim would be easier.

I wish you lots of luck and if you have any other questions, I am glad to answer them. Smile

  • I'm reeeeeally interested that they said you're a go with a 13mm luteal cyst/follicle/cyst.....did she say what she thought it was? Did you monitor last time? Is it on the same side?

That's pretty big to proceed medicated.

ETA: Did you bleed on your own, from provera or just have spotting?
  • Hey Sommer. I was pretty surprised by this too. Oh and if it makes any more difference I also had a 9mm on the other side. Does that mean I popped both follies?

Yes, I was monitored last cycle, on femara too. She said it just looked like where I had ovulated from. I had 2 follies last time. 19 & 21, one on each side.

I wondered about the size too but they do rounds with the RE every late morning to go over the mornings monitoring and she didn't say that he was concerned.

I did bleed on my own. I finally got AF at CD15.

Should I be more worried about this?

So each person is soooooooooooooooo different and if they checked with the RE, I guess I'd say trust them. I've never been allowed to continue with a follie past 6 so I'm not sure. Those, to me, sound like cysts because of size.

Did they draw your P4 mid cycle? Like 7dpo? If so, did they tell you what it was?

Bleeding on your own = good in this case. Shows that there WAS luteal cysts and they died off enough to signal period.

I guess, going forward, not to instill fear or anything but if while medicated you feel any excessive pain - I'd contact them for a u/s immediately. Even if its like 3 days into med'ing. Pain in excess of reg O pain could mean the cysts are growing with the meds. If you "get" 2 follies again this mo and they're on the same sides and no additional ones - I'd really suspect they were NOT authentic follies but cysts growing again. I'd want to talk to the RE about this directly and see what he/she said about med'ing on such large cysts.

I've never taken femara, but I did clomid plus injects and had 5 good follies.

About the cysts, I'd pay close attention to your body's signals.  If you have any excess pain or excess bloating, I'd go in to get checked.  You don't want those to grow out of control.  Good luck this cycle!
