my leg feels like it is dislocated from my butt/back and I can barely walk

Seriously, my left leg keeps giving out right where my butt/leg meets my back. It hurts super bad and I can barely walk.

What do I do for this? hot pad? cold pack? tylenol?  It is horrible. Is it just a pinched nerve or something? Anyone else have this?

  • Sounds like Siatica Nerve pain to me. I have it too. Swimming helps me, but only when I'm in the water. Try Tylenol, and I take a warm bath.

  • Where butt meets back is probably your sacro-iliac joint.  These joints in your hips loosen as the hormone relaxin allows for more expansion and loosening of your hips, so joints that are out of place are pretty common in pregnancy.

If it's not radiating down your leg then it probably isn't sciatic nerve pain.  With sciatica, you can actually trace the pain, running from your butt sometimes all the way down your leg.

My suggestion to you would be some stretches and exercises to help that joint position itself back into place.  What I do is lie flat on the floor, cross one leg over my body at a 90 degree angle, and twist my upper body the opposite direction.  Switch sides.  If you have a partner to help, this next exercise works really well.  Lie on your back, feet planted to the floor, knees bent straight up, shoulder width apart.  Have your partner place the palm of his hand on the inside of one knee, elbow touching the other knee, and squeeze your legs together as if you're trying to squeeze his arm out.  Hold for 5 seconds, rest.  Then have him place a hand on the outside of each knee while you force your legs apart, hold for 5 seconds.  Rest.  Last move is a little tricky.  With knees bent to chest, have your partner place one hand on the bottom of your left knee and the other hand on the top of your right knee.  You then try to force your left leg down and right leg up for 5 seconds as your partner gives you resistance.  Switch.  Repeat all this 2 or 3 times.  Then I sit on the floor, ankles crossed, and rock onto my back and up again...just for a spinal massage.

I have back injuries from years of gymnastics, cheerleading, etc.  This was the only thing that helped without medicating myself.  I had an awesome physical therapist!

  • i have the exact same pain and called the dr sunday when it started he suggested heat and tylenol and resting. after two days mine unfortunately still isnt better so im headed to the dr today for him to check out it. if the pain persists id call quickly they can give you vicodin in a low dose ( perfectly safe for pregnancy since its pretty much a stronger dose of tylenol)

My Dr. said you can try all of these things because they won't hurt.  But they won't help either.  Mine comes and goes.  Usually if it's like that for a day or two it passes and doesn't happen again for a few more.  Stretching feels good overall, but it doesn't keep it from happening.
