2nd...having upstairs neighbors sucks because you can hear them moving around...I would rather live on top so that the noise your neighbors make doesn't affect you as much.

Yes, but be prepared to have your downstairs neighbor complain. T stomps around so much on the second (main) floor of our townhouse, and if you're downstairs it's very loud. I would feel awful if there were people living below us.
1st for 2 reasons....I'd hate to lug everything up and down the stairs multiple times a day, and kids are loud.....running around, falling, jumping, etc. I'd rather live on the 1st floor so I didn't have to worry about that bothering my downstairs neighbors.
1st. I've heard DD when I'm in the basement & I'm grateful we live on the 1st floor. 2nd. I've lived on the 2nd floor & lugging all my stuff upstairs sucks. I can't imagine w/ a toddler.
If you have a choice, first!!! We live on the 3rd and it sucks. I will frequently go grocery shopping at night, after DS goes to bed, so I don't have to try and get him and groceries up the stairs at the same time. And heaven forbid you forget something...

We live on the First floor. There is no way I could carry DD, her stuff, my stuff, groceries then tackling stairs. No thank you.
We live on 2nd floor and I like it because:
1. We don't hear people walking "over" us and hear them vacuuming and such (you can hear it if you live on 1st floor
2. You can walk naked and not worry about someone seeing you from the parking lot.
3. In the winter, the guys downstairs "warm up" their place and you don't have to turn your heater on much - more $$ for Christmas shopping.
4. You can daily exercise by walking up and down the stairs, especially on grocery shopping days
