Less Fetal Movement

I'm 37 weeks today (ticker is off by a day).  My twins are big (estimated at 6 pounds, 4 oz. and 6 pounds 10 oz. last week).  I'm not feeling them move as much as I used to and it's freaking me out since I'm so close to the end.  Is this common?  I see my peri tomorrow and might ask to step up my nonstress tests to make me feel better.

Re: Less Fetal Movement

  • You should definitely discuss this with your doctor tomorrow.  Don't downplay your concerns to him.  It is a myth that babies "run out of room" at the end and don't move as much.

What you should do right now is drink some juice and lay on your left side.  You should feel movement.  If not, I would call your doctor tonight.

This, when I started feeling less movement they had me come in to the hospital, it turned out I was in labor and had my twins about an hour later.  I would definitely call tonight if you still feel decreased movement after drinking juice and laying down.

  • Thanks ladies.  I'm feeling movement now so I think I'm ok but I'll call if I have less movement again.
  • Yeah, ditto Sarah. Definitely play it safe if you have concerns about decreased movement.

  • Same happened to me.  As soon as I saw my ob, she sent me straight to get checked.  I was told they were turned around but they were actually moving a lot.. I just couldn't feel it.  (Later) As for being in Labor.. I did not even know my water broke.  I sneezed a couple of times in the shower and thought I had peed.  I ate dinner. Saw pink when I went to the restroom. Called OB who said to go to hosp.  Felt a twinge on my way there.  Felt little twinges when I got there about 4.5 minutes apart.  They were worried about giving me meds for a C-section (breached) because I had just ate dinner.                 Smile Best Wishes !         Oh, and be sure to tell your peri As Soon As You Get There!!!  Don't wait 'till the middle or end of your appt.!
