Dropping a feeding

I think DS may be ready to go down to 3 nursings a day.  Any of you at only 3?  Can you give me an example of how that looks?  Is it a breakfast/lunch/dinner type schedule?  I can't figure out how to drop one.  Thanks!

Re: Dropping a feeding

  • our pedi said we could drop to 4 feedings when we introduce lunch (solids) at 7-7 1/2 months.  i haven't given her lunch yet, and even when i do i don't think we will be dropping a feeding--i BF on demand but she doesn't really go longer than 3 hours and doesn't wake to eat during the night.

i will be following her cues.  i wouldn't be dropping to only 3 feedings at 7 months, but that is me.

  • my pedi also said she may drop down to 4 nursings, but we still do 5. she usually eats every 3 hours. if she goes 4, then she gets hungrier faster after that one, so it averages out. I also wouldn't go to just 3 yet.

I think it would be very difficult for your LO to get enough in 3 nursings unless you are supplementing with a bottle for a 4th feeding (or breastmilk or formula).
