Success after IF

WWYD?

I am 5 weeks tomorrow and do not have an appointment until I am 8 weeks for an ultrasound and informational meeting with my RE.  I emailed her that I am a little uncomfortable with waiting so long since I have never been pregnant before and wanted some information on pregnancy.  My RE emailed me back with no congratualions and with some bullet points on what I can eat and drink.  I called OB and I can get in for a 6 week informational with a nurse which is what I wanted and then an 8 week appointment.  Would you stick with your RE for the 8 week and then go to OB at 10 weeks like my RE said or go to OB?

Re: WWYD?

  • I'd go with the OB. Once you're pregnant, there's not much the RE can do for you, especially if she's not going to give you early ultrasounds.

    Good luck!

Ditto this. I had my first u/s at 7 weeks and another at 9 when I was released.

  • will the ob give you an u/s? I wouldn't do the appt with them unless they do an u/s.  Otherwise go! Your RE doesn't even need to know.
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! I was released from the RE after the u/s that showed the heartbeat.  I didn't have an OB appointment until 10 weeks, largely because of when appointments were available.  This is pretty normal.  Welcome to the normal pregnancy club.

  • Thanks everyone.  The only reason I am still thinking about going to the RE is becaue I am on progesterone and estrogen and they will tell me when to stop that.  I am getting an ultrasound at 8 weeks with the RE. I wish I was getting one a little sooner.  How far along before they can see a heartbeat?
  • I would wonder about the OB giving you an u/s in the first place. Most of the time the heartbeat is detectible in weeks 6 or 7. I would stick with the RE since you know you will get an u/s with them and don't want to be disappointed if the OB won't give you one.

  • Thanks. I guess I will stick with my RE since I know for sure I will get a U/S. I am probably just over thinking and worrying too much.
