Trying to Get Pregnant

Really upset!

I just picked up a copy of my last pap test from February. RE requested I hand deliver it when I go. Plain as day it says on it, Endometriosis cells present. When were they going to tell me this?!!! I even call and ask results after a pap and I was never told this!! Thank God I am headed to a better place!

Re: Really upset!

  • I'm so sorry :(  That is beyond frustrating.  I had a blood test a couple months ago.  They sent me a letter saying "You're within normal range."  So I called and left a message saying "I want to know what the numbers are."  My dr called and left a message saying "I tested X, Y, and Z and they're within normal range."  Well, considering "normal" can vary based on the source, I'd really just like to know the dang numbers!

Of course, that's nothing compared to your news, but I share your frustration.  Good for you for heading somewhere better!  I think I'll need to do the same!

  • um...I am almost %100 sure you cannot detect Endo through a pap.  There are multiple reasons that endometrial cells could have been found on your cervix though.

I was just wondering about this...

  • I just found this on the interwebs

"A woman who is menstruating sheds cells from the lining of her uterus called endometrial cells. If these cells are seen on the Pap smear of a menstruating woman, the report may note "endometrial cells, cytologically benign, in a menstruating woman. The comment that cells are "cytologically benign" means that they do appear not to be malignant (cancerous) cells. A comment of this nature is absolutely not worrisome since a menstruating woman may be expected to shed such cells."

    So maybe don't worry?

    This.

ETA: the only way to diagnose endometriosis is surgery.

This, that was on my PAP too, but I had literally just stopped AF. My dr. said that was why??? I don't know, but if it concerns you ask for the test to be repeated.  Good luck!!

  • Are you sure it didn't say "endometrial cells"? I don't think it would say "Endometriosis cells". Endometriosis is a condition, not the name of a cell.

Embarrassed it does say this. I feel better now that all of you smart ladies have brought it to my attention that this may be something to not worry about. I guess I am so desperate for a reason why this doesn't work that I immediately saw this as a red flag. Thank you for bringing it to my attention that it may not be that bad
  • Not only is it "not that bad," it is totally normal.  A pap smear that does not have endometrial cells is considered inadequate and should technically be repeated.
