Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Making your own plums in hard!!

I have been making LO's food with my baby food maker and I love it!

Okay...I probably bought 10 plums....I think it made maybe 5 ice cubes!!

Is there a trick or should I just buy the jar stuff??  When I peel them, it feels like I'm taking so much of the actual plum.

I think it's funny I'm obsessed with all of this baby food making, but my LO doesn't understand it!!

Thanks!

Re: Making your own plums in hard!!

  • If you boil them first the skin will peel off much easier.  (There is also a trick about scoring an X on the skin and just putting them in boiling water for a minute and that's supposed to work too - but we had no luck with that.)

The same thing will work for peaches.

That being said, I've found both plums and pears to be a PITA and will probably buy these in the future instead of making them again.

  • you can steam them with the peels on & then it just kinda falls off.

wash the plums (of course) then cut an X into the peel & place X side down into a saucepan with about an inch of water & boil until soft. & then coll & Peel

or you can boil a pot of water & put plums in until the skin puckers & drain & cool & then the peel kinda just slides off.

That being said...both of those are messy & the plums turn out too thin.  I just buy the earths best plums

  • Thanks ladies!

Yeah, I use that website all of the time...BEST WEBSITE!!  I did peel them and then I steamed them...but I think it has been the longest job out of all of them...maybe because they're small.

Thanks again...I have bags of food...I maybe shouldn't worry abou the plums until LO figures out the food!!

  • I just saw this video at Weelicious.com  link

She purees the plums with the skin, and then pushes it through as fine mesh strainer.  If your baby is over 8 months you can leave the skins, if they don't have texture issues.  I'm glad I found this...leaving the skins will save me tons of time!
