I definitely wouldn't be on nutrisystem while TTC. When I did it years ago they said not to be on the diet if you're pregnant or breastfeeding and when I went for my pre TTC appointment before I had Declan, the doctor told me i need to stop dieting immediately. I was doing basically what nutrisystem stands for (5 small meals a day, 1200 calories) and he told me i had to add about 500-800 calories a day while TTC. hope this helps!
I tried it for like 2 weeks last fall. My cousin had some left over from when she did it and gave it to me. It was easy because you really didn't have to plan (other than fresh fruits/veggies and dairy, I think). Some of the food was good and some was disgusting - it was hit or miss.
I didn't last very long on it, but I did lose 7 pounds in a couple weeks.
I'm not going to sugarcoat this, but please keep in mind that this was just mine and MH's experiences...
MH and I both did it for about 3 months leading up to our wedding.
For me, breakfast, lunch and snacks were easy enough to stick to, but dinners were hard (but I did it anyway). MH had an easier time sticking to it. One of the things that was difficult for me was that I was always hungry. Also, you still have to go grocery shopping regularly to fill out the meal plan which I wasn't initially expecting and (obviously) adds to the cost.
The food - particularly dinner - was AWFUL! The first month was the worst because I tried to get like 1 of everything that sounded remotely ok, but I quickly found out that there were only a few things I could tolerate. (I would avoid any of the saucy dishes.) The breakfast, snack and lunch options were easier to stomach.
I was not very successful - I lost somwhere around 7-10 pounds over the course of three months (less than a pound a week). MH was more successful - he lost about 25-30 pounds. I am not sure what his average was per week, but I know he lost more at the beginning and less towards the end.

Why would that matter while you are TTC? I am TTC right now and doing WW -- sticking to about 1200 - 1500 calories a day. There is no way I am stopping. When I do get pregnant of course I won't diet, but I don't see why it would matter now.
i don't remember exactly why (sorry i know, i'm no help!!) but the doctor said i shouldn't be dieting while TTC. that 1200 cals is not nearly enough. I wish I could remember why he said I couldn't diet :-/
but as far as nutrisystem goes, the food was pretty terrible. some things were ok (i actually liked the tacos and sloppy joes) but it wasn't worth the money considering you STILL had to buy produce and it just was too much money. Honestly, what was successful to me was just eat 5 small meals a day, try to stick around 1200 cals a day and that works. drink a lot of water, i'd suggest getting the biggest loser cookbook. there are some amazing recipes on there and i didn't feel like i was dieting while eating the foods.

My doc was not concerned while TTC. Once pregnant I will have to stop, which I understand.
I do well with very strict guidelines so I feel like this might be the way for me to go. I'm definetly on the fence about it because of the cost though
I haven't done it, but one of my good friends did. She lost about 40-lbs, but she said you REALLY have to want to do it. She said the food is awful & most of it tastes exactly the same. She also complained about the cost because of having to buy fresh food on top of the cost of the meals.

I'm doing WW as well while TTC. Being at a healthy weight is better for TTC IMO. Drastic fluctuations are not good. But losing weight just while TTC is not an issue. Dieting while pg is another story. What your doc said doesn't really seem to make sense. At all.

It depends on what her weight was. You get your daily calorie intake to maintain your body weight (not counting HEAVY exercise) by multiplying your body weight by 15. If she weighed even 160 which is not "fat" for a lot of heights her calorie intake should be 2400. 1200 is a huge deficit and could cause her to go into starvation mode and her body would then start taking the nutrients she had stored in her body which would be what is bad for TTC, it could also affect ovulation. By adding 500 to 800 calories to her diet it could put her back into a healthier range of 1700 to 2000 still less than her body needs to maintain and she would still lose weight, but a much healthier weight loss. Just one possibility. Most people dont get where caloric intake comes from but by simply picking a number you think seems low is not always the best way to go.
