Lowering crib - when?

When did you lower your crib?  I think ours has three levels.  It's currently on the top.  But DD is sitting on her own more and more, which puts her head level with the top of the crib.  She isn't pulling up yet, but I'm sure that's next.  So when do you lower the crib?  Wait until she is actually pulling up?  Do it now?  I have to say, I'm not anxious about doing this as it's going to make putting her down harder with a bigger drop.

Re: Lowering crib - when?

  • we lowered ours when they were sitting and crawling.  When we lowered it we went from top to bottom.  It was a pain and I didnt want to have to do it more than once.  If I were you I would lower it sooner rather than later.  Better safe than sorry.

  • Yes, if I were you I'd definitely do it now.  We lowered ours before Jake could get himself into a sitting position (he was able to sit on his own if we propped him up, but couldn't get himself sitting on his own for a couple weeks).  Anyway, it's crazy how one day you'll go in there and she'll be standing, or on her knees...it's not worth the worry IMO...
  • We didn't lower ours until DS was 14 months.  There was no way he could climb out before then.

  • DD went from sitting to pulling up so quick, I'd always day lower it sooner rather than later.

And don't mess with the middle setting, like PP said, it is a pain, and there's no big benefit to any middle setting, just put it all the way down.

  • we lowered once when he was sitting up, then again when he was standing. It wasn't that complicated to move, and made me feel safer

  • The furniture store told us to lower it at 5 months.

  • We lowered ours to the middle setting when Caroline started pulling up to her knees.  I was terrified she would learn to stand all the way up and I would be asleep and she'd fall out.

It did make putting her down a bit more difficult...but not too bad.

  • I lowered ours once he could get himself into a sitting position on his own. It was a little later at about 9 months that we did that.

  • Lower it now. As soon as DS started working on pulling himself up, we lowered it.  And it's basically on the floor now.  Sure, it's not as easy to put him down in it, etc, but it's not that big of a deal.
