Dreft vs Woolite?

Can someone explain the difference between Dreft and Woolite?

Sorry if someone has asked this before, but why is Dreft so special? Is Tide too harsh for a baby? Just curious..

Re: Dreft vs Woolite?

  • Dreft is not special...it's a marketing gimmick:)    Specially designed 'baby' laundry detergents are not better than regular.    In in some cases, have more dyes and perfumes than other laundry detergents.     If you want suggestions on what to use.....   look for a free and clear type detergent or a natural type one:)   We use Nellie's Laundry Soda.    We used to use Tide Free and that was fine too.

  • Ditto PP Ditto...don't buy into it!!
  • Dreft isn't special, just smells REALLY good. With #1 I used Dreft, with #2 switched to regular detergent. We use free and clear stuff. I am super sensitive to scents.  No problem with #2
Yeah...my pics were so old. I got 3 kids. Nuff said. :)
  • All Free and Clear works perfectly for sensitive skin.

What you want is detergent without dyes or perfumes. Dreft has the same ingredients as the All, and works equally well.

Woolite is awesome stuff, but it is a lot more expensive. I wouldn't go that route unless LO was allergic to the All, which is extremely uncommon.

Dreft is kind of a gimmic; why pay twice the price for laundry detergent when the regular free and clear stuff works just fine?

  • We use All Free NClear and it is effective and much less costly than other brands.
  • Pretty much ditto what everyone else has said. We were told that "Baby Detergents" are just a marketing gimmick by our pediatrician with DS#1. He said to take a onsie and throw it in with the regular family wash. If baby has a 'reaction' to it...redness/rash/etc...then use something without dye/perfume. I only used it because I got about 3 industrial size things of Dreft at my baby shower. Honestly, it lasted me through DS#2. My first two were only 18 months apart...once it was gone, I tried the onsie thing and wah-lah...no reaction...

  • We just use a Kirkland free and clear since that is what I have to use for my sensitive skin

This. It smelled really good and lasted until DS was 3 so of course I used it. I don't know if I would buy it for myself.

  • we used all free and clear before baby and after.  it has no added dyes or perfumes.  it is great!!
  • We will be using the same laundry soap we usually use, except we will use the dye free/scent free version. We already started using it and we like it.
  • I will be buying one bottle of Dreft, only because I love the smell of it. It just smells like a baby to me.  I know it's a gimmick, but I want that smell again.  I had gotten some for my shower with DD and used it for 3 months, and then switched to All Free and Clear for DD, which is what we use for the rest of our laundry.

For the first few months, I made sure I ran the extra rinse cycle on the washer for all of DD's clothes no matter which laundry detergent I used.
