Sleep help?

I can't sleep through the night for more than one, maybe two days a week. I've been holding up pretty well, but I am freaking exhausted and can't continue this.

What have you taken, or what are you taking, that's pregnancy safe and worked for you?  I've tried benadryl, which helps me fall asleep, but then I'm still waking every hour or so, and it is not working.

Re: Sleep help?

  • the only thing that worked for me was a cup of warm milk before bed.  and sleeping in a rocker/recliner.  i was so big i just couldn't get comfy when i was laying down.

my doc did say tylenol-pm was okay so i tried that a few times, but i still had to wake up to pee all the time.

  • honestly nothing ever worked for me. I just learned to live with it... but after already having one kid it wasn't that bad.
  • ask your MW or provider about Progesterone cream or spray. I was having issues sleeping, and we were discussing me trying it out. You apply it to your belly and it is absorbed through the skin.

  • i had the same thing. sometimes the benedryl worked and sometimes it didn't. i know that there are things your OB can prescribe during pregnancy - i couldn't take them because i needed to be able to be up for DS if he needed me but in your case i would absolutely look into it!
  • I finally broke down and bought a Snoogle pillow yesterday.  I slept like a rock all night!

  • I guess it depends on what is keeping you up.  For me, it was lots of things.

    1) Heartburn:  Helped to sleep propped up on pillows, on the couch or in a recliner (also had to resort to prescribed meds in the last four weeks or so).
    2) Restless legs:  Had to change my diet a bit (added more iron I believe)
    3) Leg cramps: Ditto above
    4) Racing mind:  Rubbed lavender behind my ears & turned off the tv at least an hour before bedtime.  Also kept a pad of paper & pencil by the bed to jot things down if needed
    5) Generally uncomfortable: Slept with a pillow btwn my legs or propped under my belly - that helped a bit but not much
    6) Waking up at 4am every day?  Couldn't do a darn thing about it.  Turns out when baby was born, that was his big wake up time too so at least I was used to it, lol.

Hmm...after looking at this list I'm not as sure that I'm ready for #3.  ;)
