Success after IF

Issues with sleep-1 month old

LO will be 5 weeks on Tuesday.  This past week, he is very fussy in the evening (between 11 pm-2 am).  He is usually up again around 3:30 am (depending on when he went down earlier) and it takes forever to get him back to sleep after he is eaten/been changed.  The eating/changing takes about 45 minutes but it can take us another 30-45 minutes to get him down.

I think he is starting to get his days and nights mixed up.  He usually has a good wakeful period around 11 am, in the mid afternoon and then late at night.

It is very hard for us to keep the lights low etc. at night since we are in a one bedroom apartment and my IL"s are currently visiting and sleeping in the living room (so we have to keep him in our bedroom).

Any suggestions?

Re: Issues with sleep-1 month old

  • How much longer will the in-laws be there.  If you think he's starting to get his days/nights mixed up I would want to nip that in the bud big time.  At 1 month I don't think there's really much you can do besides keep lights low and be quiet.

Are you swaddling? We didn't swaddle for a few weeks after coming home, or at least I didn't.  My hubs would when he would come home from work and Ophelia would be fussing.  I got with the program after it calmed her over and over and over.  We swaddled for nighttime sleep until the crib transition at 3.5 months.

  • IL's are here until the 20th.

We have to swaddle or LO will not sleep well.  Oh well, we will try and keep the lights as low as possible and hope he is more awake in the day.
