Yeast Infections while pregnant question...

Do you know if it is ok to take the monistat 3 day to help with a yeast infection?  I have a had symptoms for several days, but just thought I was irritated from all this heat, but now think I have a yeast infection.  I have never had a yeast infection before but heard it is common in pregnancy...Anyways, do you think I would be ok to do it or should I just wait until my dr appointment on tuesday and have them make sure that is what it is? Thanks for the advice...

  • They'll want to make sure what it is, esp. if you've never had one before - but waiting until Tuesday might be very uncomfortable for you!  I'd still call the doc, but they do sell test kits now to see if it's yeast.   You can take acidophilus which might help.  I know eating yogurt will give you the acidophilus too, and I know you can actually put it in the vag (plain, non sweetened only), but I don't know if there's a reason you can't do that while pg.  Talk to your doc for answers. Better safe than sorry, especially while pg!

  • I'd wait.  I NEVER have them while not PG--I have only had them while PG.  I self treated once or twice (after being diagnosed by the doc initially sometime early in the 2nd tri) and then toward the end thought I had another.  The doctor swabbed it and it actually wasn't a yeast infection that time.  It was [TMI] bacterial vaginosis.  This is treated very differently--and my doc doesn't treat it in the third tri unless absolutely necessary because of the drugs used.  It cleared up on its own after DD was born.

Also, my doc recommended the 7-day treatment and specifically said to avoid the 3-day or single day treatment.
