I never refer to DH's family as my in-laws during conversation. They are always Rich's dad...Rich's sister... And I call them by their names like FIL is Rick not dad.
I sometimes think that it is probably a little rude. Like I don't want to claim them in any way as part of my family. But DH is the same way with my family.
How do you refer to ILs?
Re: What do you call ILs?
To their faces? Their first names.
To others....MIL, FIL, etc.
This to a T. It's always BJ's mom, BJ's step dad etc. I rarely, if ever, say my mother in law or whatever. I'm not sure if it's rude, but I don't really like most of them anyway so....
It depends who I'm talking too...if I'm talking to someone who knows Jordan's parents/brother I say Jordan's mom or dad, etc. If, for example, I am talking co-worker who has never met them I say my mother/father/brother-in-law.
Too their faces I called them by their first names. Up until we got married I called his parents Mr. and Mrs. _____. Then once we were married I decided heck, I'm just going to call them by their first names. Jordan's parents, more specifically his mom, are very traditional.
this!
Same here. Bri & I both think it's weird to call each others parents mom and dad.
Me too
