Baby Names

Twin girl names...what do you think?

We are expecting twin girls and we are pretty confident that we want to name one of them Addison and are thinking about naming the other girl Katelyn (they would be Kate & Addie for short).  What do you guys think about this??  We are still considering other names besides Katelyn due to the fear my husband and I have that she may be called "Katie" by some and we definitely both do not like that.  Any input or ideas?  Thanks!!

  • Oh and for middle names we were thinking Addison Grace and Katelyn Rose...sorry, left that part out!

  • I guess it's fine if you don't mind have more than one of both of those names in all their classes.  Both of those names are insanely popular (with both those nn's as well) and I have a feeling your DD's will be Addie A and Kate A all through school.  JMO.

  • What about Addison and Adalyn, or Kaylin? I want to name DD#2 Adalyn but DH doesn't like Addison and Adalyn. We don't shorten Addisons name and don't plan to DD#2. Oh I like Katelyn but I don't think it ages well. I can only picture Katelyns as 2 year olds, I really like Kate though. if you don't let people call her Katie then after the first try of then doing so, they'll get it. People try to call Addison, Addie a lot and I just nicely correct them.
  • I love Katelyn/Kate, but I'm not a big fan of Addison.

  • I like them alot. They are kind of popular but, if you love the name does it really matter? If you are concerned about Kate becoming Katie just always call her Kate as a NN and let others know her NN is Kate. It will catch on. Heck Katie Holmes went from Katie to Kate when she married Tom Cruise.

  • They're not my style--too popular, but both nice, pretty names and they go well together.
  • I love the names and middle names!!!!

    Yes, exactly!!

The names are fine. Kind of cutesy, but not terrible.

  • I really like both names! Good choices!
  • I love Caitlin (spelled this way) and I do not like Addison. It's super trendy.
  • I think they are cute.

  • As a 1983 Caitlin, I must do my duty and warn you that it is not a name that ages particularly well. This problem is only exacerbated by the newly popular spellings of Katelyn/Kaitlyn/Kaytlynn, etc.

I can, however, assure you that I have never, ever been called Katie, so don't let that particular worry stop you.

Honestly, I really dislike Addison. It's traditional meaning is Adam's Son. It's also a disease (Addison's Disease). I just can't get behind it as a girl name. Sorry.

I think you can correct people who call Katelyn Katie, but there are so many variant spellings of Katelyn that she will likely always be spelling it for people.

  • I'm not a fan of either, but I love just plain ole' Kate. Really dislike Addison though.

  • I think those are very pretty names.  I wouldn't worry about people callling her Katie.  If you call her Kate, everyone else will too, except the occasional annoying relative, which you can correct.  Some day, though, she may want to be a Katie, and then you probably don't have a choice.

  • I LOVE your names! They are beautiful! Katie could come naturally, but if you don't call her that, the chances are much less likely.
  • Both names are great and I like the way that "Katelyn" is spelled.  :-)

This. Every time I see or hear of a little girl named Addison (and that's quite a lot lately) I think of the disease. IMO, it would be like naming your DD Polio or Chicken Pox... But then, it's quite popular, so obviously there are lots of people who disagree with me.

Katelyn is nice, but I'd probably go with Katherine and the nn Kate- it's classic.
