4D Ultrasound - Baby A has cord around his neck!!!

I'm trying not to panic but the pics showed the cord around his neck like a necklace. He moves alot which could tighten it or free him. I still have 11 weeks to go!! Anyone else have this happen?

  • First of all, do not panic.  Mother nature is a smart cookie.  20% of babies are born with the cord around their neck.  It's not a big deal really.  Your little one will move a ton between now and delivery.  The typical length of an umbilical cord is 25 inches at term.  There is more slack that you think.  I delivered a baby with the cord wrapped around 4 times, and my MFM has delivered one with the cord around 5 times.  Don't stress!!

  • My DD had the cord around her neck when she was born.  The doctor simply unlooped it before pulling her out.  It wasn't a big deal.
  • Logan had his cord around his neck when he was born too. Mike videotaped the c-section (his was a planned repeat) and when the Dr pulled him out you can see it right on the video and my Dr even says, "Whoa there buddy" and then just unloops the cord. I'm sure if it was something to panic about the tech or the Dr would say something.

My DD was also born with her cord around her neck.  It must have been freakishly long because they measured it twice and I heard them talking about how long it was.
