Lost Twin question

Dunno why I keep obsessing over this, but I'm just terrified of losing one of the twins. I keep drifting over to the MC/Pg Loss boards and then I get super duper emotional (of course) and worry more than I should.

How often does a multiple get lost after it's diagnosed? I've heard of one failing to grow at the same rate and losing its heartbeat then eventually being reabsorbed. Mine were pretty much within 2 days at about 9w, but I HATE not having another doc appt for 3 weeks after diagnosis!!! I want to hear those TWO heartbeats!!!

Re: Lost Twin question

  • We have all been there!  If they both looked good at nine weeks....it should still fall within the less than 5 percent chance just like a singleton.

Hang in there!  It does get easier and less worrisome at your pregnancy progresses.

  • I was also really worried in the beginning.  We had an u/s done at 5 weeks, then 7 weeks, then I didn't have another one done until 13 weeks.  The wait between 7 and 13 weeks was crazy!  I was making myself nuts.  Luckily everything was fine with both babies at 13 weeks, so my worrying lessened after that.   Good luck at your next u/s!

  • most lost twins happen early on - called "disappearing twin syndrome" b/c they are so small they simply disappear and get absorbed by the body.  You are 11w so past that stage already.

not to worry you more- but to be realistic- some babies are lost right at the end of the pregnancy -nothing is ever a sure thing- but the fact is that MOST babies are just fine- and you are doing your babies no help by going to the m/c board and stressing yourself out - so stop.

today you are pg with twins.  today is what matters. send them love today... say some prayers... and stay positive.

we all worry- every day of our pregnancies --- and then, guess what? You worry 100x's more when they are out in the real world- so you have to find ways to deal with it. For me prayer is what helps.  Going to boards to read sad posts does NOT help and is not good for your pregnancy.

  • I went in at 7w5d and I have been consumed ever since we go back to the OB thursday so...It has been a really long 5 weeks.  I am not scheduled for a u/s so I am super worried.  I hope that when I talk to him(Dr) he might do a quick one for my piece of mind. I know how yoou feel. I am so sorry and wish I had advice but I am worring just the same. Good Luck!
