Something else my SIL mentioned was something called "the mini pill".  she said her doctor told her it didn't have the hormones like regular BCP.  I'm not sure I haven't done my own research on it.

The mini pill doesn't have any estrogen in it -- just progestin.  That's why it's usually prescribed to women who are BF-ing.  You have to take it everyday; there are no placebo pills.  And it doesn't regulate your cycle like regular BCP; your periods actually get more erratic because you stop ovulating but don't have a forced withdrawal bleed.  

I'm not allowed to take estrogen for blood clotting reasons so I tried the mini-pill.  I would not recommend it.  It's all the hassle, less effective, and offers none of the cycle-regulating/period-skipping benefits of BCP.  That's why I switched to the sponge and then the cervical cap.

 

This is good to know.  I don't like the erratic periods i'm having now, so i guess this will definately not be an option for me.  Most likely we'll end up having kids close together and one of us will get snipped.

I'm thinking about this too.  When I was growing up, I used to think the NFP classes at my Catholic church were stupid- now I wish I would have listened!  I think charting TO get pregant is a good way for me to practice for later!

I used to think the same thing!  I wish I paid attention in Pre Cana instead of playing games on my cell phone!

 

we talked about this in our marriage prep classes we had to take, but like you, I thought it was stupid and wrote comments in my workbook to show DH.  I'm sure the catholic chuch would educate me if i were interested in this.

Nothing. DH & I have used *1* condom our entire relationship. Judge if you must. We've been TTC for about 15months though and on a break right now for an RE. Either way..we will be bare backing it with our fingers crossed.

I hope to God my doc will let me get an IUD, but I've had cyst issues in the past and I think getting back on BCP is what he's going to insist on. 

And I HATED the mini-pill when I was bfing.  HATED it.  I felt like a total b!tch all the time and really felt like I had PPD on it.  I was only on it 3 months (9mo pp to 12 mo) when I weaned and I was back to my old self within a week.  NEVER again.

Hormonal BC pills and I really don't get along (they literally make me sick), so about 2 years ago, my Dr. put me on the nuvaring and I love it. Problem is the hormone levels are too high to use while breast feeding, so DH and I may just not do anything to prevent and see what happens. Once we are completely done with our family (probably after #2) I am considering permanent options like tubal ligation or Essure.

When we're completely done, DH will get a vasectomy. Much less invasive.

This, and in between I will  probably use the 3 month BCP. I'm so sensitive.allergic to condoms, and I really don't want to risk having them too close together by charting (I know IT is really accurate, but I think with a baby I won't be very accurate!)

So originally I said charting to TTA, however that depends on how long it takes for me to get pregnant with number 1.  If it takes a really long time, probably nothing then and let nature do her thing.

Probably chart to avoid/nothing. We are going to have 2 more kids but would be OK with 3 more (for a total of 4). Once we hit 3 more kids DH is getting a vasectomy. I suggested it and he totally agrees.
