Thanks for checking in...I really need to get a blog started so I can keep everyone up to date and so that I can remember everything that is going on!
His surgery went well...it only took about 20 minutes, which is just crazy! As we were warned, all his numbers (blood pressure, oxygen) got better immediately after the surgery, then got worse as the night went on. It was a long couple hours for dad and I as they had to keep upping the blood pressure medicine while the alarm bell continually went off. Finally, around 9 p.m. last night he leveled out, and we were able to go home and get some sleep. Today, he seems to be doing pretty well, they haven't been able to wean him from the meds yet, but he's been holding steady. The doctors say over the next few days things will hopefully continue to improve.
As he recovers from surgery, the next big thing added in for him is feeding. So far, he's been fed strictly via IV - fluids, lipids, fats, protein, etc. Soon, they will put a feeding tube in, and begin to give him little bits of breast milk (something like 1 or 2 cc's twice a day!) I keep getting reminders of how long of a journey this is going to be...but I'm hopeful today that he keeps on improving and making progress slowly. Thanks to all for the good thoughts - they've meant the world to me and my DH. :-)
Wow, I am thrilled he is doing so well! He must be one strong little dude, just like his parents
