Anyone in Austin, TX or know much about Austin?

We are headed there in a couple of weekends.  What, if anything, is there to do with a 4 year old?  Any fun children's museums, waterparks, etc?  I've been there before, but with adults, and that's a totally different experience!!!

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Re: Anyone in Austin, TX or know much about Austin?

  • I'm not from Austin but I've visited there quite a few times, am reasonably familiar with the city and came *very* close to moving there a few months ago. So, here's my short list:

    Swimming at Barton Springs

Playground and ride the train at Zilker Park

There's a really small zoo just outside of town

    Bats under Congress bridge

    Boggy Creek Farm visit

  • That's a pretty good list for someone who doesn't live there.  We live in Corpus Christi, so we were thinking about hitting up Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels on our way there... but not sure yet!  DH's sister will be there for a conference and we are having dinner with her Saturday night, but decided to make a whole weekend of it for a little family vacation!

  • My division's headquarters are in Austin so I've been there for training a few times. The last time DH and DD joined me, and then we stayed a week later to go to San Antonio.

Barton Springs looked nice, and there's a nice walking trail around the lake. It was too cold in December for us to go.

Zilker Park looked like fun. DH was supposed to take DD there; not sure if he did or not.

They made a gingerbread house at the children's museum. They probably have some other summer projects too.

The bats are really cool to see. They weren't out in December anymore, but definitely go. They come out right at dusk.

We went to Schlitterbahn for the Christmas decorations and attractions. It looked like a nice waterpark. I'd probably take DD back there again if we were ever in the area.

San Antonio is only about an hour drive, so we spent time there. We did Sea World two days, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the San Antonio Zoo, and the river walk. There was a cowboy ranch we went to that was close, but I can't remember the name of it.
