I think it's fine as a middle name. Not for a first name though.

IT'S A GIRL!

I don't take one single minute for granted.
My SIL is considering James, too, but as a first name. James Kendall is a family name (for the men), but she's thinking of using it for a daughter, which I thought was a pretty cute idea.
I would say anything goes as a middle name, especially if it has any sort of family connection.
Evangeline Jane would be fine, but I don't consider James a girl's name, nor do I consider it unisex and I hate, hate, hate that people are trying to make it so.

I have a cousin that named his daughter Jaymes. I honestly do not like it for a girl (fn or mn). Unless it is a family name, anything goes when there is a family connection to a name.
I think James would be good as a mn for a girl. I would leave out the "Y". Adding a "Y" to a name doesn't make it feminine. If you are going to use it, own it and go with James.

I totally agree but I dont think it sounds right with such a feminine fn.

Love Evangeline...
James (or Jaymes) not so much.
Why the Y? James is easy to pronounce as is.
My violin instructor's middle name is James, and she's not so hot on it. I thought it was pretty bad @ss myself, and I complimented her on it.

I agree it's a boys name all the way, not unisex.

I don't like it. James is 100% boy.
It's slightly better as a middle name, since she wouldn't use it that often but still...
yuck
I agree with this.
How does your brother spell it?
Also, don't you have any girls in your family that you'd like to honor, and save your brother's name for if you have a boy?
