I love lurking on this board. My DH and I are not pregnant, just TTC, but love the name Bennett for our imaginary future son. I was reading the Corbin Bennett post below and many people said that Bennett was a "soft" name. I was wondering why people thought this? I do not want to name my future son a soft name. We are not invested in this name since obviously we are not expecting, but it is a favorite of ours so I am curious.
Re: Question about Bennett
I don't find Bennett to be a "soft" name, though I think I tend to prefer the "softer" boy names in general.
I would say that names such as Barrett, Casey, Colby, Aidan, Theo, Noah, Kyle, Tristan, and Roman (which are a few from my extended list) are soft.
Bennett, still not so much.
Maybe I am thinking people are saying soft as a negative, when in fact it is not. I love many of the names you have listed as "soft" so if those are soft then I am ok with that :-)
I agree, haha!
I tend to dislike many of the names I consider "harder," such as Jackson, Trent, Troy, Isaac, Jacob, Anthony, Nicholas, etc.
I'll stick to my soft names, thank you.
I love the name Bennett, and I don't think it's "soft" at all. I do think it's more of a classic name, though.
Great choice!
I can't help but think of Tony Bennett and his smooth classy voice, so to me it's not a rough and rugged sounding name.
Compared to the other names in the other post, such a Axel or Jett, Bennett does sound "softer" than those names. If that makes sense.
I think it depends on each person's frame of reference:
Bennett reminds me of this guy I knew in middle school named Brian Bennett, who was really nice, and somewhat sensitive (in a good way), and not your typical crazy 8th grade boy. So I see the name as soft.
Barrett, which a PP said was a softer name, reminds me of William Barret Travis, who defended the Alamo with his life. He was a tough, smart leader, and is considered a war hero here in Texas. So, needless to say, my frame of reference makes me think of Barrett as a strong, rugged name. PS: This name is pretty popular around here.
