Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If baby spits up/vomits, do you refeed them?

I think DD has been really hot/dehydrated today... she usually takes 2.5 ounces every 2-3 hours.  This afternoon she took 2 ounces at 3:00, another 2 ounces at 4:15, and another 2 ounces at 5:30.  She always refuses the bottle if she's full, and today she happily gulped away.  Then she got the hiccups after her 5:30 bottle, and I tried to give her Gripe Water and it went down the wrong pipe and she started gagging.  Then she vomited up all the breastmilk I'd just fed her.  So I'm wondering if I should try to feed her again to keep her fed and hydrated, or if I should just wait til her next feeding...

If DS throws up and then starts giving hunger cues, I'll feed him again.  If she's not acting hungry, I say just wait.

  • I wait. If I don't, he usually ends up throwing up again because he's still unsettled

Ditto this.  Sometimes she swallows wrong and spits up early in the feeding.  I burp her and continue letting her eat.
