I don't know if it is strange or not being that this is my first multiples pregnancy but it sounds similar to my experience. I had one internal at 8 weeks and the next one I had was at 20 weeks. The only reason my OB checked my cervix then was because I told him how many BH contractions I have been having lately. Not sure when the next one will be.
Dx with severe endometriosis. DS#1 conceived with Met and TI. TTC#2 for 2.5 yrs. Dx 2nd IF. 4 clomid cycles, 2 IUIs, Finally IVF#1 w/ICSI worked for us! twins born 35w3d. Unexpected total hysterectomy 6/11. Now on the HRT train.
Nope. I haven't had an internal since very early on either. They can still measure your cervical length with a normal u/s, so as far as I know, there's not really a need for an internal.
Since 12w, I've had regular u/s at my peri's office every 4 wks.
The only internal exam I have had was at my first appt. My cervical length (which has undergone marked shortening) has been completely followed by transvaginal u/s.
Starting in my 18th week I had a transvaginal u/s every 2 weeks to check the cervical length since my doctor believed it was more accurate than an abdominal u/s. I think this is more often than most though.
From 12w through 31w, I had a transvaginal u/s and an abdominal u/s at every single visit. After that point, I just had the external u/s (since they didn't need to check my cervix anymore) and the occasional internal exam.
Re: Is this strange?
I don't know if it's strange. It seems like most of us are getting u/s at most, if not all, apt. I'm only seeing my OB-no specialist.

Nope, my doctor didn't even check me at all during my pregnancy until the day I delivered.
I had PTL so every time I was checked, it was by a L&D nurse.
No -- when you are super early on the internal u/s is the most reliable....as you get further along it's perfectly normal to get an external u/s.
Most non-high risk pgs only get external u/s....
i started having montly cervix length checks (via vaginal US) at 16w... until 32w.
are you seeing a peri/MFM or just an OB?
