Phineas and Ferb? Alright show?

We watch Nick Jr and some Disney shows.  My 3.5 year old caught one of these and has been asking to watch it.

Is this a decent show?  It looks a bit old and if it's on the line of Sponge Bob, then it's a "no" from us.

Opinions?

  • We love Phineas and Ferb!  It's for an older crowd, but not inappropriate at all.  I would prefer it over Spongebob anyday.  And I can watch it with him without wanting to pull my hair out.

  • I have seen only snippets from it and I am not too keen on it. It's a no for us, for now. I have a girly girl, so I am hoping it won't even be an issue.

  • I say no, only because next door neighbors evil child loves it.  He also loves star wars and pretty much anything violent.
  • I think it's alright.  It's not violent or scary, not even in the same league as Spongebob--which I absolutely forbid DD to watch.  The main characters (Phineas and Ferb) come up with wild/creative inventions to pass the day over their summer vacation and inadvertently torment/embarrass their teenage sister.   The "bad guy" has whacky schemes for taking over the world (along the lines of Pinky and the Brain, if you'd ever seen that)  -plague of untie-able shoelaces, inducing compulsive yawning, etc.  There's usually 2 separate plots that often intersect.  There is some funny content that is more directed at adults, but it is not offensive and definitely goes over my 3 y.o.'s head anyway.  DD is totally a girly girl and will run/hide her eyes at anything remotely scary on TV (including a recent sesame street where Cookie Monster almost ate one of Abby Cadabby's freckles accidentally) and Phineas and Ferb hasn't made her flinch yet.
  • I love P&F and Amarah watches it all the time. Of course, I let her watch Spongebob (which I loathe) too so I'm probably not winnng any MOTY awards and you might not want to listen to me. ;-)

  • Jackson loves Phineas and Ferb.

I don't mind it (and we do not watch Spongebob and NEVER EVER WILL).  There are some things that are probably over his head - for example, there is some of a love interest storyline between the older sister and Jeremy, but it's pretty innocent and silly.

I think it's a pretty smart show - the things the kids do are inventive and it's funny.

  • My DD is almost 6 and is outgrowing the younger-geared shows (Dora, Yo Gabba Gabba, etc.) and I'm having a hard time finding shows for her that I approve of. That being said, she LOVES Phineas and Ferb and I don't mind it one bit. Sponge Bob, though... I can't stand it!

  • I agree with eclaires - it's a very smart show with lots of jokes that are above my (almost) 5 year old's head but I think are hysterical.  You know how the Simpsons can be watched on a few levels?  Think of it like that.

He's outgrowing the "baby" shows to some extent and the live action Disney shows are a tad on the obnoxious side (hello, Hannah Montana - I almost cried when my 2-year-old saw a picture of her somewhere and yelled "HANNAH"  I thought she'd be a has-been by the time my kids cared).  This is obnoxious, but different.  Sit down and watch it with him and see what you think.

  • What eclaires said--Ethan enjoys it & anything inappropriate pretty much goes over his head.  I like that the boys are imaginative & creative.
  • I think it's hilarious. DD is a bit young for it, but I've actually caught myself watching it all on my own while flipping channels. I don't think there is anything offensive about it. Spongebob is awful.

This. My 4.5 year old DD LOVES P&F. She giggles uncontrollably at some of the things that happen. It is VERY innocent and not violent at all.

  • I enjoy P&F.  Will loves it.  He's totally getting past all the Nick, Jr. shows.  He's moving on to the more tolerable ones (at least for me) like P&F, Kid vs Kat, and Fan Boy and Chum Chum.

And in the interest of full disclosure, he loves Spongebob.  I was very anti-SB, but he managed to sneak in somehow.  Now Will loves it, but he knows not to say any of the things that SB or Patrick say.
