Potty Training

Do your DH's help with the PT???

Or is it primarily up to you to do it?  I'm not actively trying to PT her, but she's been sitting on her little potty (clothed) for months now.  We just recently tried it without a diaper and she's pooped in it twice, but that's it.  And we don't do this every day either, because DH is typically the one to put her to bed (which is when I've been trying her on it without the diaper - before bed).  Just wondering if it's all on your shoulders or not.  Thanks.

Yes and no.  I basically had to tell him what to do, how to handle things (don't scold for accidents, lots of praise for trying and going, encouraging trying it out but not pushing, etc.) and remind him to help her.  But I MADE him be a full-fledged partner in this.  Because if you think I'm always the one jumping up from my dinner to rush her to the bathroom, uh, no.  We trade off.  I wanted her to be comfortable with others taking her to the potty.

  • Yeah, we did the 3 day with DD almost a month ago and DH was just as involved as I am. He didn't read the e-book; I just told him everything important :) When we PTd DS, we did our own method (but it was very similar to 3 day) and he was just as involved then. I think it was important for them to be comfortable with him taking them, but it's also nice not to have to be the only one racing to the potty every 5 minutes in the beginning.

    I agree

  • We did the 3 day potty training; We both read the document and it specifically said there is a primary potty training person and the partner is there to help the primary person not to actually potty train.

DD goes to the potty with her nanny and with me...no problems.  She goes fine with her papa when I am not there but she prefers I help above all else.

Its not a bad thing, i just pay attention to when i need to pee and assume she does too.  Also if she drinks something, I know 30 or 45 min later she will need to pee.

DH was very active when he PT DS but he's very active in everything with the kids.  I would also say that he was probably the one that did most of the work PT DS because for one- they are both boys and DS mimicks his dad but also I just had a baby so I was taking care of her at the time.
