Minnesota Babies

New to the area

Hi, I just moved to the area from Illinois in May.  I'm 17 weeks pregnant with my first child.  My husband and I are really excited!  However, it has been a big adjustment moving here without knowing a single person.  Anyone have any advice on how to meet other expectant mothers in the area?  I am going to be taking some childbirth classes but not for a few more months.  Thanks!

  • Clases are always good. Also there is something called a Just between friends sale in Aug in Eden Prairie and thats always a good place to meet some new people. I really don't know of any place else. Sorry I cant be anymore help. I am kind of in the same boat. All of my friends have already had children and I am the only one pregnant.

  • Hello & welcome to the area.  There are a lot of great people on here :) Also you will meet a lot of cool people in the classes

  • Hello and welcome! Congratulations on your pregnancy. I didn't really meet other expectant mothers when I was pregnant with LO #1, but have since met many moms at the park in my neighborhood. You could also consider 'mommy & me' or community ed classes. Again, welcome to MN!
  • ECFE is a great way to meet other moms once your little one is born. Also, you could check into a MOPS group. Good luck and congrats!

ETA: Also, Blooma in Edina has pre-natal yoga classes. It be a great place to meet expectant mommies.

  • Welcome! I know how you feel! DH and I moved here from CA just about a year ago and got pregnant the next day. It was hard being alone and in a new place, but you meet people!

  • Thank you for all of your ideas and for welcoming me!  I guess I just have a little homesickness going on, but I'm sure I'll get over it.

  • Welcome to the neighborhood. We're right next door in West St Paul. I know there are a few others close by as well. Our school district's first ECFE (Baby & Me for birth-8m) class is free so definitely check it out! The new "Way to Grow" brochure will come out in August with the schedule of when and where. You can call to get on the mailing list.

  • Congratulations on your first-time pregnancy, and welcome to Minnesota.  My husband and I, and our 4-1/2-month-old son live up in Brooklyn Park, if you ever want to connect.  We just had our first baby, too.  It's a wonderful experience that doesn't compare to anything else you'll ever experience.  I LOVE being a Mom.

If you haven't already started your classes, I think you'll really be glad that you'll take them.  As a first time Mom about to give birth and not know what to expect, it puts a lot of those questions aside.  I recommend your husband going, too.  The videos are graphic (they're actual births), but you forget that you're watching someone else, and end up getting used to seeing it.  It does prepare you for the real thing.

Send me a message if you want to connect sometime!
