TTC after 35

Belated Intro

Hi everyone!  I posted for the first time about a week ago.  I had a question and didn't take the time to look around first before I jumped right in.  Sorry.  I've been reading posts most every day  and I genuinely appreciate all the tips and advice that have come my way - and to others.

I have 3 kids actually.  My first was when I was 17, a son.  My daughter came along when I was 23 and my second son joined in when I was 25.  Their father and I were married for 16 sad years but that is finally over and I have found a real love.  I used to be known as "fertile Myrtle", ha, kinda ironic now.  Those babies were all created just by standing too close to their dad.  Now I'm ready to start a new life with a wonderful man and for the love of God can't seem to make a baby with him.  Supposedly we are both "all clear" so now I find myself in this "TTC after 35" board.  Never would have thought...not in a million.

Unlike most of you, my OB is not monitoring me the way all of you are being monitored.  My insurance does not cover anything at all related to fertility so until I have exhausted my efforts with her I won't be switching over to the RE.  However, I have addressed my concerns with my OB and she assures me that I am safe, granted it would be tremendously helpful if she were doing b/w and u/s at some point in this cycle...but...she's not so I will trust her judgment and hope for the best.  I have the option to go 3 months on clomid with her so we'll see if I'll go all 3 or switch over sooner.

On a more specific note, I am on cd10 today and I used my first OPK test last night at 7pm.  It looked negative (as I expected) but this morning I took another one at 6:30am and it looks positive.  I really didn't expect that this soon in the cycle.  I brought another test with me to work and plan to test again within the hour.  If that one looks positive too then I will assume it's right.

I also put a call into my doctor's office (that's who I turn to first) to discuss the possibility of me ovulating only 2 days after my last clomid pill.  Is that even possible?  I thought the minimum would be 5 days, based on what I've read.  Also, if I'm supposed to begin the progesterone the day I ovulate, and I'm misreading these tests, will that hurt anything?  These are my questions for her, and any of you.  I would love to post a photo of the tests...just need to figure out how. Huh?

Anyways, nice to meet you all and hopefully we'll see each other on the pregnancy boards really soon.  My youngest is about to turn 10 and I REALLY miss having a little.  My whole life has been about being a mommy to my babies.  :(

Re: Belated Intro

  • Hi and welcome! ?That does sound early to O after only 2 days after Clomid? Clomid did mess up my cycles though, so that might be that you are Oing early?
  • Thank you.  How did it mess up your cycle exactly?  Do you know how to post a picture?  My doctor's office called back and said that if I get a positive then to go with it.  They suggest that patients start testing on day 11 so she said it's definitely possible that I will ovulate on day 11.  Everyone's body reacts different so just go with the kit she said.

Welcome - I also have two teenagers, got divorced, remarried and now trying for #3 for me, would be #1 for dh.

I haven't done Clomid but I did Femara this cycle and when I went in for my CD 11 ultrasound I had a prominent follicle and another one that looked promising so they had me trigger that night - so in that case it certainly sped up my  ovulation.  GL

  • Interesting.  It's just a big huge information pool on here, some of it means something to us and some of it doesn't.  Thank you and GL to you too.

By triggering that night, would that make you ovulate instantly?

Welcome.  I have no experience with Clomid so I can't comment on the OPK.  Just welcome!
  • Hi and welcome.

Wow...your story sounds almost exactly like mine.  I have a 15, 13 and 8 year old from my first marriage.  It was an extremely unhappy time in my life.  I finally got the courage to leave him about 5 years ago.  I just got married in April to the love of my life. He is a wonderful father to my three children. I never knew love could be like this.  We are going to start trying in August. It will be his first.

I wish you all the best.   This is a great group of women.

    GL.....Tracy

Nope if I understand it correctly (this was my first time) you ovulate in 24 to 36 hours after the trigger shot, so I triggered that night and had an IUI the next two mornings.

Oh I see.  Thank you.  :)
