I wanted to name my baby Alyssa if it's a girl. It was #31 in 2009, which didn't bother me too much, but I saw a list for 2010, and right now it's coming in at #16. Ugh! That's a bit too popular for me. So, back to the drawing board. I need names that start with A that aren't too trendy. What are your favorites?

Re: Crap - my girl name is too popular. Need a new "A" name.
Interesting, I wouldn't have thought Alyssa was that popular. I still don't think it's anywhere on the Isabella, Emma, Olivia level though.
As for A names, my favorite is Alexandra.
I love Alyssa and I'm suprised it's that popular since I have only known one girl named that under the age of 5.
For A girl names I love Alayna and Adalyn
Not very popluar:
Anna
Aimee
Alice
Amber
It's definitely not on that level. I'm just worried that it will be in a few years...
Ok, I just saw a different website that lists it as #27 for 2010, and #22 for 2009. Which one to believe? I want to believe babycenter, but the other website says it's based on social security data. Hmm...

Just go by the actual SSA website. You can see how popular a name has been going back over 50 years. You can also see the top 100 names in your state.
https://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/My favorite "A" name is Anna.
If you're avoiding trendy, don't use Adeline (or any spelling of it), Addison, or Avery.
Here are some others:
Amelia
Amanda
Allison
Abigail
Adelaide
Amber
Alicia
Angelina
Angela
Agatha - I'm really into older names, I don't think this one has hit the over-used list yet
Allison
Alma
Thanks for the SSA link. I'm feeling a bit better about it now, because it looks like it peaked in popularity in the late 90's at #11. I'm still worried it's a bit too popular though.
Thanks for the suggestions so far.
Me too! I also like Avery and Anna, but those are pretty popular too.

I think this is a regional thing--Alyssa and Liliana are far more popular here than Isabella. There are two Alyssa's and three Liliana's in my niece's daycare class, but not a single Isabella. And, when I look at the other classes, that trend holds pretty true, although there are at least two older Isabellas. Can you search out a 2010 list that is available by region? Maybe you'll find Alyssa isn't popular in your area?
Interesting... where are you from? I checked out New York, and it's #30 here. Not terrible, but not great either.
Addison
Avery
Annaliese
Arianna
Abigail (Abbie)
I only have 2 A names on my girl long list:
Adriana and Alette
Just because the website says it's popular doesn't mean you'll meet a lot of Alyssa's, and neither will your daughter. My name is Elizabeth and it's always been in the top 20, but I only know 3 other Elizabeth's and I go to a HUGE university and went to Catholic school my whole life.
Name it whatever you want!
This website is awesome for names-

I was going to suggest Aubrey as well!
