Afraid of the Dark

Reagan is suddenly afraid of the dark. She has a night light but suddenly she is coming downstairs(yes through the dark) in the middle of the night sobbing that she is afraid of the dark and wants to get into bed with us. I've let her a couple of times but don't want this to be an ongoing thing. She's a pretty violent sleeper! This morning I let her because it was 3:45a and DH was going to be up shortly anyway. Not sure if I need to put another light in her room or something.

Re: Afraid of the Dark

  • O sleeps with his overhead light on and has for at least a year now.  A night light is not bright enough for him.  I figure it's easier to just leave the light on than to go into his room a billion times a night because he's scared.  I'm sure it's a phase that will end some day.

  • DD has already done this too...we went to the store together and picked out a flashlight that she could use to shine around her room if she was scared.  It has REALLY helped her out.  Good luck!
  • I'm sorry - that sounds like a hard problem.  We haven't had issues with either kid being scared of the dark, but Sarah does come downstairs a couple of nights a week complaining of bad dreams.  Most of the time we take her back upstairs but sometimes we cave and let her sleep with us.  That flashlight idea sounds like a good one though.
