Orange pee?

At my 24wk appt on 7/1 they advised blood was in my urine. I couldn't see it but it showed up on one of those test strips. Yesterday they told me there was no infection. I called back and left message but haven't heard from them yet.

This morning i noticed my morning pee was orangey (sorry tmi)...so i started thinking red & yellow make orange. I haven't really paid much attention to my morning pee but this am i did so i'm not sure if this is the first time or not.

I figure i'll wait until tomorrow and if it's orange again i'll call the peri instead of the OB.

But if there is no infection what could it be? Any ideas? I figured i'd ask the experts. My MIL says it could be all the movement from the babies. I'm a little concerned.

Thanks!

Re: Orange pee?

  • i'd say call anyway, but mine looked orange-ish when i wasn't drinking enough water.  maybe see if that helps?

  • Yeah, might also be dehydration. Maybe drink a lot of water and see if it turns yellow again.

  • Also, if you just started taking iron pills, they can change your pee color. I forget if it turns it orange though..

  • I'd call the doctor and in the meantime DRINK UP!! Even if it's not what's causing the colored pee it's good for lots of other things.

  • i'd definitely follow up with doc but I agree with pp, could be dehydration.I notice on days I don't drink enough...urine will be darker and sometimes a shade of orange.

  • Not sure if this is same situation, but my first morning pee is always a lot darker yellow than rest of the day, and since I take my prenatals at night, I attribute the coloration to the vitamins.

Either way, I'd def askt he doctor about orange urine.  GL

  • That happened to me (a little blood in my urine one morning around 36 weeks) in combination with a constant pain/pressure in my inner hip area.  The doctor said it could be kidney stones blocking fluid.  There was nothing that could be done, not even to fully diagnose it, while pregnant.  I never experienced the peircing, periodic pain that stones usually cause, and in my last u/s after that appointment she didn't see any stones, but there was fluid building up as if there were some.  A few days later, after using the bathroom, I noticed the pressure was gone.  Because it sort of resolved itself painlessly, I think it was just my baby boy causing the blockage.  The u/s tech had suspected the same.

I'd call the doctor to let them know the blood is now visible, discoloring your urine, and see if they want you to come in.  Regardless of what it is, lots of water is a good idea.

  • Definitely increase fluids.  Have you had any pain?  I think kidney stones could cause blood in the urine too.  Hope it resolves for you!  It's always a good idea to call the doc if you're concerned.
