Is goat cheese OK?

There was an amazing goat cheese dip at our family gathering this weekend and after I ate literally 1/2 the plate I started to wonder if goat cheese is OK during pregnancy. Does anyone know? It's a little late now, but I'm curious for the future. What are the cheeses we are not supposed to eat?

TIA

  • I believe it's fine as long as it's pasteurized...which, chances are, it was.  You're good!

  • all cheeses are fine as long as they are made with pasteurized milk.  just check the label.  most that you will find on the market are safe but it's always best to check the label.

  • I LOVE goat cheese!  Can I get that recipe? :)

The following is a list of "cheeses to avoid" that my doctor gave me:

    Brie

    Camembert

    Blue

"Mexican Style" whatever that means...  I plan to ask for clarification at my next visit.

I don't know the recipe, but it was goat cheese with sun dried tomatoes and a bunch of other spices and oil on top. It was to die for!!! Now I want some more. :)

Mexican style means queso blanco and queso fresco. You can find these in the international dairy section at the grocery store. They are creamy or crumbly and white and tend to come in a round shape. Note that this is not melty yellow cheese queso dip (hooray!!!).

OP-- any pasteurized cheese is fine, save for the blue-veined ones depending on what your dr says (mine says no to those).
