Help! What would you do?

All of a sudden, Jonah is waking up repeatedly after we lay him down and throughout the night. (I probably jinxed myself by asking if it's normal for babies to talk to themselves for a while after you lay them down - now the talking his turned to screaming/crying). Last night, he woke up 5 or 6 times before my husband finally just brought him into bed with us, where he slept soundly until 7:00 am (that's late for him). The problem is that if we go into the room to console him, he calms down, then starts to cry the minute we leave the room. Is this separation anxiety? Or something more? Teething, perhaps? Some of this behavior seems similar to when he had a double ear infection a couple months ago, but some of this is new (he wouldn't cry when we left the room before - he just cried when we laid him down). He doesn't seem to have any other symptoms that I can see. We have an appointment to see the pediatrician next week for a follow-up on fluid he had in his ears during his 6-month check-up. Would you call and move up the appointment, or wait and see how the next few days/nights go?

Re: Help! What would you do?

  • I would probably try and move up your appointment. It could be another ear infections if he is waking through the night and that's not normal for him. My pedi told me they do this because it hurts to lay down when they have an ear infection. Is he showing any signs of teething? It could be that too if he's trying to eat everything in sight and/or drooling a lot. HTH and I hope you get some good sleep soon!
