I'm not a frequent poster but I need help. I haven't had much of a problem with diaper rash until now. DD has had diarrhea for a few days (viral thing, I think) and it has caused a terrible rash. When I change her diaper she cries when I'm wiping her. I'm using Triple Paste and California Baby Diaper Area Wash.
I would love to hear any more suggestions for easing her discomfort. I thought about using witch hazel pads (like Tucks) but I just don't know...

Growing Up Olson
Pure water. When DS's was at his worst, I would hold him over the sink to wash his butt at every diaper change and then pat dry (don't wipe!) with a cloth. Let air dry as long as possible and then use a thick ointment (we love the Aveeno) like you're icing a cake and then diaper as loose as possible. This was the advice of my aunt who is a professor of pediatric nursing and it worked like a charm! At one point I even stayed home from work one day and let DS play on a large blanket naked with plastic trashbags as liners under the blanket. And then doing the solution discussed below.
Also, if very wet and raw you can use a domesboro solution a few times per day. It works well. You just mix up the solution ( you can buy it over the counter at any drug store -- it's old school, so just ask the pharmacist) and then soak gauze in it and then apply for 15-20 minutes a few times per day. It dries it out. At one point our pediatrician had even recommended using it as the wipe solution, but I stuck with plain old water.
And if worse comes to worst, then there are prescription diaper creams (we've had one but I don't remember what it was called) that the ped can write you a script for and then the pharmacist has to compound it. Took about a day.
Thanks everyone!
