Preemies

22 calorie formula

hi everyone...

i haven't posted here before but i have a question that you ladies will probably know the answer to. i have 2 preemies, 18 days old that just came home from NICU today. they are on the 22 calorie Similac/Enfamil. Are either of these formulas available at Costco or Sams Club? I looked online and didn't see them at either, but I know Costco doesn't have all their products online, so I thought I'd check in with some other preemie moms who probably used this formula. Also, if they are not available at Costco or Sams, where is the most cost effective place to purchase the formula? I'm feeding twins, so we need the best price possible. Thanks!

Re: 22 calorie formula

  • We use Enfacare. Unfortunately, you can't buy it at Costco, and unless you buy online, can't buy in bulk. And, even buying in bulk online isn't always the best price, their website has a 6 can case for $92, which makes each can $15.33. I generally buy at our local Giant, where it is $14.99/can. I just googled to price check quickly and it looks like apparently some insurance companies will cover it, so definitely check that.
  • We also use the Enfacare, and I looked around online for the best price and found that my local Safeway had it for $15 like most places..

  • you could always call and ask if someone would check for you....thats how i found out which local stores had it in stock

  • Another hint:  Make sure you ask the pediatrician when you go to the doctor's office.  My daughter was her pediatrician's only preemie patient, and everytime we went in he would give us all the cans he had on hand.  Once we left with six or seven cans!! :)

Even better:  ask for a prescription and call your insurance company or pharmacy benefit company and see if it is covered.

Mine is.  I have over $2000 worth of formula in my basement that I paid $50 for.  And it was delivered to my house.

  • At the grocery stores near us, it's about $15 per can. But, at Walmart it's $13.50. I've been using the $5 checks from Enfamil and heading to Walmart, so it's only been around $8 per can so far... (Target is about $13-14 as well)

My husband said that the best deals on Enfacare online are from the Enfamil website. I hate that it's so expensive, but DS is starting to catch up on growth, so it's worth it!

My girls were on Enfacare when they came home from the hospital and we found the best price at Giant.  Target does sell it but it is more expensive there.  I actually thought online was more expensive than anywhere.

Another tip, sign up on enfamil.com or similac.com, whichever your LO's are using.  They will send you coupons for the first few months which come in very helpful.  I even had my mom sign up so she gave me her coupons.  Every little bit helps.
