How do you keep it from becoming toxic waste? I love my Diaper Champ, but I don't think there's any deodorizers out there for it. Any home remedies or ideas?
I don't have the diaper champ so I'm not quite sure exactly how yours works, but you could probably sprinkle some baking soda in there every time you put a diaper in to reduce odors. I used to have the diaper genie and it came with scented liners so I never had any issues with a stinky pail.
The whole idea of the diaper pail freaked me out so I never got one. I just use a small bathroom garbage can, use Target bags(because they're nice and thick) to line the can and take the bag out to the garbage when it's full.
We don't use a pail anymore b/c of CD's (we have a bag), but agree with pp that a bit of baking soda should help. Our bag hasn't stunk until yesterday, when we had still left the windows open from a spell of cool weather and it warmed up while we were gone- yeah, diaper stink central.
The only reason I still use my diaper pail (dekor) is because I want to finish the liners I have. IMO none of them seem to do the trick. It's just better to use a small trash can and take them out more frequently. After I saw the maggot post on here I just about through ours away!
I spray it with lysol like someone else mentioned and I also found these Arm and Hammer baking soda disks at Target (in the baby section) that work pretty well. Now I use them all around the house in every garbage pail.

We have a diaper genie. We wipe the inside and outside with disinfecting wipes everytime the bag gets changed and also stick a baking soda deodorizer in the bottom. We have no problems with smell (or maggots!)
We also spray ours with Lysol every time the bag gets changed. I also sprinkle a little Arm and Hammer in the new bag. Lastly, I give it a good cleaning every few weeks. As long as you change the bag frequently enough, it shouldn't stink or have maggots.
